- Artist Statement: My interest lies within the invisible essences that surround objects and our fascination to engage and capture these ‘spaces’. Objects can be mystified and believed to radiate an aura, a subconscious state that evokes ideas of histories they have played witness to. These essences develop through the need to attach intangible memories onto something fixed and concrete. They act like souvenirs, serving as traces of authentic experiences and magically returning us to the sensations we experienced from the moments they represent. My work seeks to examine the imperative need to memorialise and whether investing our own individual histories into something concrete achieves the reassurance offered by the idea of an immortal memory.
